At first glance, it appears as if the game is over. It's hard to argue with this. Runescape's activity has declined since its peak in December. It is important to note that other similar games, such as World of Warcraft, have also seen a decline in activity. However there are some positive signs for the game.
If you are able to get past the massive decrease in activity, you'll notice that towards the end of the graph, the decline in activity has slowed to a trickle. Also, over the past one and a half years, there really hasn't been a significant decrease in activity, at least with real players. Although there was a reduction in the perceived amount of activity due to the elimination of bots, the decrease for regular players isn't significantly.
Does this mean that Runescape isn’t dead? Not necessarily. However, it is dying much slower than most people believe. Runescape has been unable to recover three activity points from Google trend over the past year-and-a-half
